We are pleased to announce that we will be releasing BaruwaOS 9.8 on the 15th Sep 2026.

With this upgrade BaruwaOS will be going from Enterprise Linux 6 to Enterprise Linux 9.

We are offering an in place upgrade to move you from BaruwaOS 6 to BaruwaOS 9.

The upgrade will be handled by a script that will automate the upgrade from:

  • BaruwaOS 6 to BaruwaOS 7
  • BaruwaOS 7 to BaruwaOS 8
  • BaruwaOS 8 to BaruwaOS 9.

While the script is automated, you will be required to interact with the prompts to move between steps as well as take any neccessary actions.

This is a multi version upgrade so downtime will be required. Make sure to take disk backups to ensure you can rollback should the upgrade fail.

The upgrade script will only run on a linux console and not via SSH, ensure that you have console access to the servers that you intend to upgrade in place.

Pior to commencing the upgrade, have a plan in place for all the scenarios that you may encounter and schedule a large change management window for the upgrade.

Not only will this upgrade address the update of the base operating system, the Baruwa web application has also been ported from Python to Golang.

Initially the web application will provide the same functionality and look and feel so as to ensure a smooth transition.

You will however notice as smoother and snappyier experience interfacting with the web interface.

If you are using custom themes for your web interface those will have to be rewritten in the jet template language.

There are other small differences that you may encounter mostly due to the differences between Python and Golang but the interaction remains largely the same. Thus the user experience will not be disruptive.

New functionality and features will be introduced later when the new OS has been adopted by a large part of the install base.

As has been the nature of BaruwaOS, this remains a lean OS containing only the neccessary software to run an efficient and secure by default mail filtering system.
